Situated along the Southern Mozambican coastline, we offer you the chance to explore marine ecosystems that have had little human impact and once in a lifetime encounters with sharks, rays, turtles and many other amazing species.

We are not just any ordinary dive centre, we are a team of highly skilled and experienced NAUI Instructors, Dive Masters, passionate marine biologists and committed conservationists. Our team encourages a responsible and positive attitude towards marine conservation whilst offering you an all-inclusive experience that encompasses dive courses, day-to-day diving, fieldwork and much more.

Marine Research & Conservation

MAR Expeditions

MAR was developed to provide aspiring scientists, conservationists, and divers the opportunity to assist and receive training in marine research and conservation. People travel from all over the world to come and gain hands-on experience and develop their knowledge of the marine environment.

MAR Expeditions is led by Nakia Cullain who founded MAR and took over as director of the Zavora Marine Lab in 2016. With a strong passion for the ocean, Nakia has pursued a PhD studying manta rays right here in Zavora. Her knowledge of Zavora’a marine life and extensive experience of the area makes her your number one person to know when you hit the sandy beach.

We have two research assistants under MAR’s belt to help carry out the daily tasks at MAR. Emily Eaton is NAUI diving instructor with a BSc in Marine Biology, her passion for marine life led her to pursue a career researching and contributing to the conservation of sharks. If you are looking to gain a new certification whilst blowing bubbles, she’s your guide.

Edward Bevan is a NAUI Dive Master with a BSc in Biology. After falling in love with the Zavora lifestyle in 2022, Ed moved here full time to further his career in marine science with a focus on gaining more experience in the field. His enthusiasm both in and out of the dive center will elevate your diving experience here in Zavora.
